Curriculum Vitae (short)

Lukas Stappen received his M.Sc. in Data Science with distinction from King's College London, UK, in 2017 and joined Prof. Dobson’s group. His doctorate (Dr.-Ing./ engl. Doctor of Engineering) in multimodal deep learning was supervised by Prof. Schuller and defended with summa cum laude (engl. with the highest honours) in 2022. Recently, he left BMW Group Research to start his own venture aiming at improving human-to-human interaction analysis.

He (co-)authored 30+ publications (600+ citations, h-index=13+) in the research fields of multimodal deep learning, affective computing, multimodal sentiment analysis, linguistic, and multimodal/cross-modal representation learning. Further interests are denoising in-the-wild signals and machine learning in healthcare-related domains and social media.

He was the lead organiser of The Multimodal Sentiment Analysis Challenge - MuSe 2020 and 2021 at ACM Multimedia (A*), program committee member at the 4th (IJCAI 2019) and 5th (ECAI 2020) International Workshop on Knowledge Discovery in Healthcare Data, data chair at the Interspeech Computational Paralinguistics ChallengE (ComParE) 2020, reviewer for IJCAI, IJCNN, ICASSP, ACL, AACL (IJCNLP), IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing and many more. Furthermore, he received several student academic excellence scholarships as well as the best paper award of the IEEE MMSP 2020.
